they're all fantastic, but if i had to choose, i'd say these are my favorites, in appropriate order of production:
1. S02E04 Sexy People
2. S02E03 Love and Monsters
3. S01E12 Bar Lies
4. S02E07 Monday June
Honorable mentions:
1. S01E01 Pilot
2. S01E06 The Scarlet Neighbor
3. S02E05 Paris
4. S01E07 Whatever It Takes
The entire series was great, but Season 2 had a little bit more sparkle and replay value than Season 1 for me. This show really should be a summer series on another network or streaming service, but if any of the former producers are reading this and have interest in reviving it, a gay male roommate moves in at the beginning of Season 3 and creates an unusually fun dynamic. I've had insane dreams about this, let's do it.
Though ABC execs should be fired for screwing with the schedule so much and FOX would never have messed with the time slot half as badly, good for the network for giving such edgy, exciting material a chance. I think this show will have a huge impact on the future of comedies and sitcoms because it's starting to show more of what viewers want. This was truthfully one of the most brilliant, under-appreciated shows of all time that struggled to find an audience because of poor scheduling and bad advertising. I sometimes wonder if they expected this to be a flop, especially since Krysten Ritter has terrible luck being a talented actress and finding steady work on longstanding projects as a series regular?
