Why so much hate

Finally watched this movie after discovering it some time ago and i really liked it, i don't get why it gets so much hate and went straight to DVD.
Sure it's a bit campy and trippy but tbh that's what makes it interesting, at least more interesting then a lot of recent garbage.

Lots of complains about how John didn't act like a normal person would, sure like everyone knows how they would respond when confronted with an in your face serial killer...

It keeps you on your toes and halfway through you wonder if it's all just in John's head (as the police officers seem to confirm) but then in the end it is explained and actually makes sense, or did it...why did SLJ's character took him to that bar specifically. So guess it doesn't give you a definite closer, but it's more about the journey then just having everything spoon fed tbh.
