I thought Acosta was a composite of Guzman and Felderhof.
Absolutely right!
This is also why they made Acosta half white, half [forgot what other race he was] in the film.
In fact, in the real story, John Felderhof said:
“In December 1993, John said ‘Close the property,’ and then we made the hit.”
This parallels the movie, as Acosta wanted to close the mine while Kenny was sick. Also, Felderhof was the one who had the cooper mine, just like Acosta's character.
