This is nothing at all like wolf of Wall Street.
There are some similarities in terms of the era, the hustling protagonist, and the ruthlessness and folly of Wall Street. Unfortunately for Gold, the similarities pretty much end there. Perhaps because its main character is more ambiguous and sympathetic than the clear-cut scoundrel of Wolf, Gold is less certain of what it wants to be—is it a plucky tale of resilience and triumph or, like Wolf, a satirical critique of capitalist shoddiness? Rather than being one or the other, or braiding the two, the results are flat and mechanical. Add the disparity in visual talent between the directors, and you have the difference between an engrossing and memorable film versus a barely engaging and forgettable one. share
Why? Because it's based on a true story about money and has Matthew McConaughey in it?

Fromthebottom Guy discovers way to make money. But gets richer and richer and has a glamorous life and a woman. Guy gets greedy and *beep* everything up. Sounds like woolf of wallstreet to meeeeee
shareIt's based on the Bre-X mining scandal. Not really any similarity to Jordan Belfort except it was a financial scandal. In fact, Belfort was never "the Wolf of Wall Street", he wasn't even on Wall Street - his business was on Long Island. "Wolf of Long Island" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

why not have the same ring to it? i mean they obviously play in a different time, but the rest seems pretty similar to me. gold probably has few less jokes and is far less comedic... but character wise he's gonna go through similar emotions. maybe :P
