Thinking of seeing it
I am thinking of seeing this, but hope this isn't one of those preachy "all rich people are evil" kind of movies. Is it?

shareNot at all preachy in any sense.

I saw it. i have trouble believing that after all that he can just go to his local Currency Exchange (or wherever) and cash a check for $82,000,000 without arousing all sorts of suspicion.
shareIt was an offshore account, not a check. The money is already there, all he has to do is use the pin to wire it to whatever account(s) he wants.
Generally banks have confidentiality rules even if it seems suspicious. A US judge could, and probably would, grant a warrant to track his bank statements sometime after investigation closed. However, it was an offshore account, so a US order would not have any jurisdiction, especially if they didn't know about the account.
In the real Bre-X gold story, the two guys moved out of the country (Canada): One to Bahamas and another to Cayman Islands (the one suspected of salting the core samples with gold). Sounds guilty as hell, doesn't it?

It was just an all around mediocre movie. I was really disappointed in it. I was falling asleep near the end.
