Too much soundtrack

Good music, but damn, can't they make a movie without music every 5 minutes or less? Every other scene in this movie, and a lot of others now, seem to be music videos. Characters can't walk down a hall, into a room, down a street, or do anything, without a song coming on, often in slow motion. It just dragged out a lot of the movie. I liked American Hustle but overdoing the soundtrack knocked it down for me a few stars. Also made movie about a half hour longer than it should have been.

As did I.

Loved the soundtrack & the use of it in this film.

I remember having a problem with 'overuse' of good tunes in 'Vanilla Sky', but *not* in American Hustle.

I guess Jigalini is too young to have lived through the 70s.
American Hustle is a movie about that era complete with decor, dress, attitudes and music. As such it was successful, a bit like Stardust in intention.
Actually I find it absurd IMDb lists the credits ad nauseam but doesn't list the soundtrack artists. I mean who cares who the drivers ( for example) are over the people and effects that actually affect the finished product of the movie.

The constant reliance on music of the early '70s – excellent though it was – suggested the writers and director had no idea how to advance the plot.

Defo agree on this. Big mistake!
