This movie is fantastic and gets way too much unnecessary hate

Wonderful performances that really drive the whole movie (even though a certain two overdid it in a couple of scenes). The theme of reinvention and conning ourselves to survive was very interesting and something i have not seen touched upon in film. Christian Bale is god reincarnate. The movie is just wonderful all around; funny, dramatic, great score, with wonderfully improvised and creative direction. What else do you want?

This movie is geared towards more "mature" audiences hence the low IMDB score and 93% RT and 90 Metacritic scores. This site has many fanboys and haters that are teenagers and get off on trying to make one movie or actor appear superior/lesser to another by Imdb scores.

If you think this was the first time theme was addressed in a movie, well, you haven't seen very many movies.

What's your b!tch ass doing on this board? f-cking weirdo man... And why would i be butthurt? 150 million in the U.S. Academy, award nominations everywhere, fantastic reviews , Bale getting nominated, etc. You're the one butthurt, why else would you be here but to be consoled by fellow haters.

And not a single win.

Certainly a fun movie. Soundtrack, Lawrence and Bale were very nice. Adams and Cooper good early on, but started to lose subtlety and intrigue overplaying their feelings to Bale's character. Pleasantly surprised by Renner; tended to find him quite boring in other roles, but did well in the Pesci JFK style role.

Gave it an 8 for fun first time round (not seen it since), but the ending had almost no kick at all. Without Jennifer Lawrence I think it's a fairly mundane movie with a nice lead performance from Bale.

Christian Bale should have won Razzie

From what I've seen on this board the hate is ever-flowing but not very well explained or illustrated. 'I didn't like this character.' 'Most of the characters didn't have any redeeming qualities.' 'I got bored after 20 minutes.' ALL of these arguments tend to say more about the person stating them than the film itself.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. As the plot developed and moved on, characters left and right were put to the test of whether they'd compromise themselves or hold firm to their beliefs and intentions. While the abscam situation was high-profile, the individual dramas involved in it were small in scale and these are focused on in this film. How far will Irving go in his sacrifices for Sydney? Far, but not so far as to sacrifice his son in the process. To what extent will he bend to his wife's wishes in order to remain in his adopted son's life? And how far will the chief of police go in advising his hot-headed protege, who increasingly berates him? Which friends will the characters sacrifice and which will they not? In short: who would you hustle if push comes to shove? The film asks and answers many of these questions, and, as such, is quite an intricate viewing experience.

Add to this some excellent musical support, lush sets and quite a bit of courageous improvisation (even though it's not a 100% success) and it becomes hard to argue against this movie.

While I have to admit it didn't make me laugh (and C.K. Louis was a terrible choice), the quality of this movie was quite apparent to me.
