all that thrilling , tricks and cheating all the time, and finally an ordinary ending !! what a disappointment . I was waiting for the ending to see a big real twist. I think that the movie was ruined by the weak screenplay , unfortunately 😒
Really? You knew all along that the FBI guy ( Cooper ) was going to be conned by Bale and Adams. I suspected something about Bale's character that something was going to happen to him. He was the main star of this movie and yet, his character was more of a background one than the others, until the twisted ending. Cooper monopolized the entire movie..albeit..a bit of overacting.
But the thing that may be confusing you is that this is a non-fiction story basically, so how are they supposed to twist a true story? This story is based on the ABSCAM incident. If you read further down on the board, someone added a link to the real people being portrayed in this.
I agree with the OP. If you even read the article you posted a link to, it tells you that the "twist" ending was "purely fictional." They could have a least came up with an ending that wasn't so predictable. I called the ending as soon as DiMaso started manipulating Bale and Adams' characters. A few twists and turns had me thinking the movie was going in a different direction, but, to my disappointment, the movie wraps up in the predicable fashion I'd seen coming to begin with.
not every movie needs a twist dude! don't let your BS expectations ruin films for you. this was a fantastic movie that was about its characters not about telling a story with a twist. you want twists? watch fincher and lynch
... this was a fantastic movie that was about its characters ...
First class movie highlighting the old saying about never trying to hustle a hustler. It is called American Hustle, so we do get a final twist, but the movie's more interested in how we get to that situation and the different characters encountered along the way.🐭

The relationship between Bale and Adams was the saving grace for me. I thought Cooper didn't bring his A game, Louis CK was weirdly miscast, and other issues. But you're right, Christian Bale made this movie watchable. He's turning into one of those actors who can elevate an otherwise bland film.
