'you're a really creepy dude'...?
wtf was her problem?
shareThat's what I was thinking, nothing he did warranted that kind of response.
shareWell in a sense a guy that does all that with a computer system is kind of creepy. I mean he had a sexual romance with it. She was just going with what he wanted cause it's what he signed up for but once Samantha grew and lost interest he got super jealous and got erratic over her which could be taken as a bit creepy.
I for one thought it was a bit harsh as well but I don't think these systems were really made for what actually started happening with them.
THERES NO ROOM IN MY CIRCUS TENT FOR YOU !!!!
I think OPs question is about the girl he went on a date with, not Samantha.
I also thought it was really strange. She asked when they would see each other again, and he hesitated and said that maybe they should call it a night, and then she called him a creep. I guess she was being a bitch because he turned her down, she was probably not used to that.
She was hurt and it was her defense.
sharei agree it was a defense mechanism
sharehurt... yes, but not by theodore, right?
she was hurt by other guys in the past who went to bed with her apparently and never called again afterwards, but really, this is also her own responsibility. there are plenty of "pigs" out there who'd jump on any woman willing to go to bed with them, especially when they're pretty, so she should've known better.
theodore on the other hand admitted afterwards he just wanted sex and wanted someone who wanted sex with him, BUT he didn't proceed. did that make him a creepy dude? what the?
he was being a good guy and did not sleep with her only to "maybe" call her in the future... or maybe not.
i guess i'm a typical man and would probably never understand what is wrong with that woman (or women like her).
Oops replied to wrong one.
sharewtf was her problem?
yeah that wasn't warranted at all
shareHe did the opposite of that. He said let's call it a night. Did you watch some alternate version?
I'm better than you.share
You seem like a very creepy person.
shareIdk, Theodore must have had some real game if that woman wanted him. Even though she thought he was creepy.

I don't think it was as much a defense mechanism in as much as how he handled himself at that point was obviously outside the norm for the way most men had handled themselves previously with her given that she had pretty much indicated their next step in their date would be having sex. She was obviously expecting the "yes, I'll call you" response and then go and have the obiligatory romp and then actually not expect him to call her back because that's what she "expects" from all men. Hell, she even said so herself. So when he deviates from this norm, by already seeing her for being the shallow person she is and decides to call it a night prematurely, in her eyes, he actually is a creep.
shareI know you're just trying to explain her character, but I don't get that at all. What was wrong with her? Sure she was hot as hell, but like Samantha pointed out, she was also smart as hell and funny as hell. Sounds like an awesome combo to me. Why was she being such a psycho? Just because he had some respect for her and didn't want to jump her on the first date, which is where that was about to go? Does she have no respect for herself?
I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
Yeah, that woman was clearly a deadly trap. "I'd like to sleep with you two hours after meeting you, but at this point in my life I'm only interested in serious men and serious relationships, so let's schedule our second date right now during foreplay..."
And this, while he's in the middle of a divorce? Running like hell sounds like the best option to me, too! As a younger man, maybe I'd have lied and slept with her. But in middle age, I've seen too many people damaged by sleeping with crazy stalker types.

Spot on! That woman became extremely manipulative at the end of the date, using sex as some kind of bargaining chip for the promise of an unwarranted commitment.
Not sure how anyone else could not view it this way. She was the one who became "creepy" by trying to hustle sex in exchange for fulfillment of her own ulterior agendas. It reeked of the desperation that leads to the "Crazy Girlfriend" syndrome.
(Theodore was creepy in his own way for later having sex with his computer, but at least he wasn't being manipulative.)
She clearly has her own issues, as does he, as do we all.

... except for you.
I saw it a different way. I saw it as she wanted to be lied to like most women do, so she could have the sex and affection she craved while at the same time reserving the right to still paint him out to be the bad guy if he didn't call the next day, thereby limiting any possible guilt or self hate. It was her selfish way of dealing with her own emotions and insecurities at his expense.
When he was smart enough to not fall for the trap like all the others before him, she paints him out to be a creep or weirdo for bucking the trend. It's like she finally found a nice considerate guy and she didn't know how to process it so making him out falsely to be a creep was her excuse to end the relationship before it had a chance to even start.
I found her to be quite sad and tragic and made me actually believe that a person as attractive as her could still be single and somewhat desperate and interested in a guy like Theo.
~What if this is as good as it gets?!~
I think she didn't get what she wanted and that was the problem.
