What would happen to Windows?

What would happen to Windows if an artificially intelligent operating system,

which would in affect be a "Turing machine" I guess, like in the movie actually

became real? It says in the movie that a company called "element software"

makes this "artificially intelligent operating system".. I think that in real

life a company like "element software" would probably be bought by Microsoft

while just starting up. So in real life a company like "element software"

cannot become real. Ofcourse I guess Microsoft could make an "artificially

intelligent operating system" themselves I guess.. But I think Bill Gates would

NEVER allow such a thing available to the masses because it would be MUCH

more profitable to sell only a few such "Turing machines" to very few

rich people or big companies for TONS of money..

Sometimes it's the very people who no one imagines anything of who do the things no one can imagine..

There's an old saying--"If you sell the masses, you'll live with the classes, if you sell to the classes, you'll live with the masses."You're proposing a "live with the masses" strategy.

Well, let's clarify something: In the entire movie, Samantha doesn't do a single thing an OS does! Does Windows process emails for you? No, Outlook does. Windows is the basis of your computer that allows to run other programs and does administrative tasks, most of which you never see.

The may have called it an OS but it's more of an interactive chatprogramm and selfprogramming AI that happens to have access to other functions ... or maybe not. Reading and sending emails is the only thing she ever did besides talking to Theo or did I miss something?

Anyway, nobody would ever release something like this as an OS anyway. Not without limits, boundaries and safety measures. I mean, it's a system that constantly evolves and changes and develops emotions and such. Which means it's completely unreliable. It might deny you access to data if it's angry with you or fall in love with that cute virus or decide to reorganize your database to it's liking. And don't forget the Skynet route it could go, deciding humans are bad and need to be wiped out.

Nah, if it would ever be possible to write such a sophisticated AI, it would be sold exactly for what these people in the movie misused their OSs: dating/cybersex partners. Porn always wins. And they'll probably come in the form of fully functional and lifelike robots because wrinting an AI that advanced is actually more complicated than creating cyborgs.

Well, the movie does show the future.

So? Logic doesn't apply in the future? And it can't be far in the future if sending emails is the main thing they do with computers.

A sentient, self actualised independent machine would also represent the greatest threat to humanity since the invention of religion.
