I have read a few (a lot, actually) reviews on imdb that gave this movie 1 star out of 10 because the reviewers thought this was a romantic comedy(!).
You don't even need to watch the trailer, it's enough to watch Phoenix's expression on the poster to understand that this is NOT a comedy. Now, how can anyone with an average I.Q. think that this was a romantic comedy is beyond me (no offense).
Actually, yeah I always regarded this as a drama and was confused by the labelling of this movie as a "comedy" and it was even labelled so on the movie rentals database (forget which) and there were like three funny scenes, but they were more like additional scenes to balance the movie, not to make the whole thing a comedy.
I suppose this is similar to the reaction of The Truman Show , Pleasantville or American Beauty and pardon my only examples being American films, which I disliked at the time until later when I realized what the real artistic intensions of the movies were. Not every oddball situation has to be portrayed as funny to work, but rather it can have a really interesting beauty to it to be portrayed as "What if this was real?" or to have a poetic meaning to it. But I guess people dislike feeling like they were screwed over for movie tickets or bringing the wrong guest to share the movie with. BUT! They may appreciate it later. The trailer for this one did not seem comedic to me either.
I totally agree with you. The humour in "Her" was definitely dark (e.g. the sex fantasies). In my opinion, this is a sad tale about a not too far future.
I was really wondering if this could happen, the more we get attached to our devices, if they would ever begin to emulate human thinking. I thought it was one of the best movies I had seen that year. It ended really bittersweet
Of course it can, rule 36:"If it exists, someone has a fetish for it. No exceptions." I am pretty sure somewhere is a guy jerking off to Cortana wishing she was real.
