The choreography in this movie is terrible

Only 7 minutes in, immediately cut it off. Don't feel like watching a 2 hour movie right now if it's going to look like that. From the opening fight, the choreography in the fight looks so generic and dated. Like I was watching an old Rocky movie all over again, but even Rocky movies in ways looked better than what I just saw.
They act like every blow is a huge powerful blow, even a jab, and the fighters look "stiff" when a shot is landed as if they're waiting to get hit, and none of the punches thrown or defensive technique makes sense. None of it looks remotely realistic. The bruising doesn't look realistic either. The arena lights are too flashy, would distract the fighters. Just so obviously horribly done and so Hollywoodnized. A modern sports movie shouldn't look this bad, be this inaccurate, but then again, that's Hollywood for you.

You obviously didn't see Creed...it was even worse!
Plus, every fight is a FOTY slugfest where the hero is nearly out but comes up with a last second game changing punch.
As a boxer, I find it really hard to watch boxing movies because they're just so false...but they are often compelling character dramas which I do enjoy.

How about the Daniel Day Lewis boxing movie? Is there good fighting form in that one?

reply

Rocky movies are all wrong when it comes to actual Boxing, but at least it looks like they're actually fighting. Southpaw looks clearly choreographed and rehearsed, it's horrible. That's what I'm mainly getting at.

How was creed choreography even worse? That fight style was waaay more realistic. You could actualy see everything happening for the first time and it was epic! Can't do that with southpaw. Terrible camera work.

guess what, it's a movie. want realism? HBO Friday night fights

Oh good the "I do X and it wasn't 100% accurate to how it would be in reality" line. Good for you. The movie wasn't about the ring, you'll need to learn to deal with it.

If they made it look like a real boxing match it would be boring. So yeah, they exaggerate the punches by making a lot more land with sound effects just like every other boxing movie I have watched.
