Was the manager behind Maureens death?

When the Manager (forgot his name) and Maureen spoke to each other in private by the pool, after that game in the beginning, they were discussing whether Hope was gonna take a break or keep fighting. Maureen wanted him to take some time off, and was a "threat" to Hopes carrier. Maybe the manager was selfish and wanted her to get out of the way so he could keep using Hope as his best boxer? I was thinking he somehow set up the shooting, and payed one of Miguels guys to accidentally shoot her. So it looked like an accident but it was actually his plan in order to get ride of Maureen that was threatening Hopes days as a boxer. Anyone thought the same?

Nothing about this film was very ambiguous. It was pretty straight forward. I don't think that a murder conspiracy was what happened at all. There were no hints towards this being a part of the plot. I think she really just caught a bullet that was either misfired or meant for either Billy or one of his entourage. Miguel and the guy who shot her looked genuinely surprised. We're all free to interpret things how we want, but in a film like this, they would have made it very clear if this was what happened. We wouldn't have to guess.

True. It was just the managers response afterward the death that made me wonder. I mean all he cared about was that Billy was suppose to keep fighting, and he even used "for Maureen" as an argument. But either way, with the lack of proof the audience can do nothing but interpret itself which makes it more interesting I think.

When you consider all the underhanded stuff he did I think there is a very good chance he did it.
