teetotaler to boozer ?

I couldn't understand why the writer found it necessary to create this sudden, abrupt change for Tick. A bar is a more conducive environment than a gym for two men to develop a camaraderie?

And it wasn't very convincing. When Billy first finds Tick in the bar, he comes across as a seasoned drinker, even suggesting he prefers to drink alone. And the staff there treat him as if he's a regular. In another scene, Billy hands Tick a drink in the same bar whereupon he replies " It's too early in the day for that," but immediately takes a sip anyway. That's the behavior of an alcoholic.

Kurt Sutter is a no talent writer. I did watch Sons of Anarchy but aside from a few good moments his writing was crap. The worst pert was he tries to put his wife in everything he writes

I tried to avoid watching anything he writes, but I wanted to see Jake G

On the whole, I found Tick unbelievable as a character. There was no depth to him and I think the writer tried to make him more interesting or 'human' by giving him this vice. It's hackneyed.

The film didn't succeed in making me care too much about any of the characters, really. I stuck with it to the end mainly because JG is such a good actor - even with this rather weak material, he managed to pull me in just enough to keep watching.

I dont think you're being serious with this question. But it was not a sudden change in his character. That was his escape from the gym, something he did alone on his own time. The kids and whoever else at the gym didn't need to know about it. And during that morning scene, he said, "just a sip".
