RIP Anton Yelchin, another young man to mourn...
The film was about mourning one young talent, now another's gone. Thanks for giving us what you did, Anton. RIP.

shareIm stillso sad about it :( Like obviously i didnt "know" him but ive seen a lot of his films, and watched a lot of interviews etc He's was such a talented guy with a good head on his shoulders
shareAlso another in a very long long line of performers who left us at age 27. Way too many to be pure coincidence., There must be something about that age that is the pinnacle of recklessness or something. Just not sure what.
But what do I know. I'm just a girl.
AY didn't die because he was being reckless, he died because his Jeep's brakes failed and it rolled backwards down his driveway and pinned him to a brick wall. Unable to move or call for help, he either suffocated or drowned in his own blood caused by the collapse of his lungs.
He was admired, well liked, chose interesting and unusual movies and never had the reputation of being a partier. He played with his band in his spare time and by all accounts was a responsible and well-loved young man. It wasn't coincidence, his age or "something"… it was an accident. The fact that he was 27 had nothing to do with it.
Personally, I'll miss him terribly. He was incredibly talented, appeared to like small movies that made one both smile and think about the message and his Chekov was genuinely the best I've ever seen… and I go back to the premier of STO. I'll spend a lot of time watching his movies again and again.

Perhaps you are being too nitpicky. The main point is that he was 27, and it sure is something to notice. Are you not aware of that phenomenon? I suppose we will never know for sure if he was reckless or not, but the 27 coincidence is startling.
I agree he was talented and seemed like a good guy.
But what do I know. I'm just a girl.
Forgive me but I'm not sure I understand your point. You say I'm being a nitpick because I referred to his death as a combination of tragic events: The failure of his breaks. The fact that (as it turns out) Jeep had issued a recall on his model, make & year for exactly the same type of failure. This combining with him going back to the gate at the bottom of his driveway, on a relatively steep hill, to either close or open it. Whereupon his vehicle rolled backwards down his driveway and pinned him to a slab of concrete or brick subsequently trapping him in place and crushing his organs. While you in turn, attribute his death to being 27.
As I understand it, being a "nitpick" implies you select one or more points alone, on which to base an argument or a point of view. Then, completely disregard any other elements related to that argument or POV because they don't support your conclusion.
I feel more than confident in saying that being 27 is not, in itself, a "cause" of death". Being well over 100? No question about it; because old age brings with it a wide variety of components any one of which can and will cause the death of the entire subgroup eventually. From organ failure to heart attack and any number of things in between; up to and including old age and natural causes stemming from that age.
I'm also certain that there are other "ages" that may carry a death sentence with them as well: Poverty and all of it's overwhelming devastation is an enormous cause for astronomical infant mortality rates. Being in your 50s and upwards (because people in the US are notorious for not taking good enough care of themselves) leading to strokes, obesity, HBP, heart conditions and any number of other health issues which claim middle-aged people on a daily basis and so on and so forth ad nausea. But once again, it's a culmination of issues that come with age and NOT the age itself. Ask doctors, actuaries, health and social service workers along with morticians and coroners and I'm certain they will all agree that being 27 is assuredly not going to end up on a autopsy report because BEING 27 IS NOT A CAUSE OF DEATH.
I don't care what the phenomenon you are referring to is but I can tell you that a phenomenon, ANY phenomena for that matter, is also NOT a cause of death. Urban legend maybe. But not a cause of death.
And for the record, none of this was said in anger or meant in any way to insult or offend you. If it did so, I apologize. But calling the age of 27 a cause of death and me a nitpick for knowing it's simply not possible just doesn't make any kind of sense to me or a point that I can understand, much less support. Given that, I felt it important to offer a variety of examples that support the opinion of a person who is not a nitpick on this issue. Others, maybe… but not this one in the least. I hope that seems fair, reasonable and understandable.

Oh geez, lookit yer novel.
27 is a specific age an inordinate number of celebrities have died (young) at. Its an interesting thing. If you are actually unaware of this specific phenomenon, look it up. Regardless, Anton Yelchin joins that group. That is all.
Good luck.
But what do I know. I'm just a girl.
I know the other guy had the last word, but I declare you the winner. I'm not even sure why he responded to your "novel" if he wasn't going to read it. But he sure as heck wanted you to know that you wrote a lot.

I will confess d-r, that I might have pushed the point a little too far in my response...
But honestly, "being 27" as a cause of death just pushed my "WTF" button a little harder than I expected!

I've watched him grow up in his different roles. I loved him like he was a relative that had grown up with the rest of us. When I heard he was dead, I couldn't respond even to cry. He was an awesome actor, and seeing him in this movie allowed me to cry for him. Goodbye Anton. I will forever miss you. The main characters in this movie were outstanding. This has been my fourth time to watch it, and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. That's what happens when you pick the right actor's.
shareCould not agree more. The fact he died; makes this movie even more touching, if possible
shareA truly talented, beautiful soul gone too soon. Loved him.
