I don't see how it was degrading?

Apparently prudish parents council called this show degrading. The only thing sexual about this show is it being called "Playboy" and attractive women in bunny costumes. It was actually tamed. Oh, well, too bad. I was kind of interested in this show. On to Pan Am...

Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, and The Beatles all kissed Bob Dylan's ass.

I think people just got caught up with the title. The Playboy industry has a reputation of being provocative. It's likely that most of the protesters never even bothered to watch.

Playboy is only degrading now. I hate playboy now.

But people have a higher threshold of what they consider "degrading" now, so this show was pretty p.c. compared to some shows on TV! Especially reality TV shows.

reply

Exactly, but the thing is, Playboy isn't even degrading. Women choose to pose nude or in lingerie, so why would it be degrading if they're agreeing to "degrade" themselves. The title is what definitely set a lot of people off and if they would have watched the show, they would have known being a Playboy wasn't even the main plot of the show.

The Parents Council, Committee, whatever are all idiots.

Why are these "parents" allowing their kids watch The Playboy Club or shows like that? This isn't for children. I hate that parents try to censor every show on television.

Now taking credit for getting the show cancelled is a coalition of discredited, anachronistic "gender feminists" led by Gloria Steinmen and various Christian hate groups (they hate everything I like).

I agree. I pretty much made these points as well:imdb.com/title/tt1797475/board/nest/189045155?d=189078830#189078830This show is quite tame compared to other shows._____~ I close my eyes lost in a memoryJust like a candle in the wind ~

Personally, if a woman wants to work in the adult entertainment field, I see nothing wrong with it. Her body, her life, her decisions. Now, my reasons for finding why some aspects of the "Playboy Club" could be degrading won't fit with the parents council(they just see any kind of sex and sexuality being portrayed as wrong, period, which I just shake my head at), and that's this: Paraphrased, a lot of girls that go to be Bunnies are doing so because "If a girl wants to make something of her self, this is where she has to start." That, to me, is the degrading aspect, that these women may not normally have chosen to work at a place like that if they'd had other opportunities. They were living in a time when women were still seen as little more than bed warmers, maids, and baby factories. It's not the show itself that is degrading, they are just showing what it was basically like for women then. Though on the flip side, it was probably places like the Playboy Club that helped women get past that

As to the parents council, and orgs. like it, this show is for adults, it comes on at 10pm, so why the hell should they care???? I've never understood these types of groups, I don't need a group of prudish biddies telling me what I can and can not, what I should and should not, let my kids watch.

Simple answer? They have nothing better to do.
Any parent allowing their 6 year old watch this show at 10pm when they should be snug in their bed is their prerogative... They bestow their idiotic thoughts on us and expect us to praise & thank them -.-

When you said "praise and thank them", it made me remember Steven Tyler thanking Tipper Gore and that parental advisory group she started for helping musicians sell more records

This show is SUPER tame compared to the new comedies that are being peddled to the public right now. I think people definitely got caught up in the title and other people got caught up in the times this show is set and dismissed it as a Mad Men knock off.

It is easier to use your efforts and influence to cancel tv shows vs getting balls and being a parent and turning the TV off and giving the kids a book to read or sending them to bed. This show aired at 10pm. Now we have to suffer because kids have a TV in their room, a laptop or ipad with internet and all other types of gadgets to see "bad things" and parents rather get the content eliminated all together vs do their job.
