PLAYBOY is cancelled but WHITNEY gets a full-season order? WTF?!

This was an entertaining show put in an awful time slot, and like so many decent shows over the years faced with the same situation, is cancelled.

Yet absolute crap like Whitney, given a cozy timeslot after The Office, gets a full-season order.

This is why a series like The Playboy Club needs to be shown on a network like HBO or Showtime. Hopefully NBC will burn off the remaining episodes for those of us who liked the show.

Quite true. Mondays at 10p have been NBC's worst timeslot for many years (e.g. Black Donnelly's, Studio 60).

Well I like Whitney and I'm glad it got a full season order, but I would've liked Playboy Club to stay on too.

I agree! Two shows I LOVED (BD and Studio 60) and now this...
Of course Whitney got better ratings- How can you compare the two time slots? I don't think it's a matter of comparing them but it does stink that PBC is not picked up and Whitney (gag) is picked up...

I agree with this!!

The Black Donnelly's and Studio 60 were two HEAVILY ADVERTISED series and I hadn't even realized they already started airing until 3 weeks in because on Monday nights, I am consumed by football. Then, I am able to catch repeats (and online) and just when I was interested they announce they canceled the show. It truly is a death slot for the network. They'd be better off putting their repeats of the week there vs other nights.

Playboy Club atleast had potential to grow into a good show while Whitney is just flat out HORRIBLE.

Ugh. I'm so *beep* annoyed right now. Do you think there's a chance another network would pick it up? I think it would have been paired well with Desperate Housewives on Sundays on ABC but there's already Pan Am.

It did bad for cable standards?

reply

I'm not an expert, nor do I have any statistics, but Mad Men getting 3.4 million viewers would be a dream come true. 3.4 million viewers on cable is probably better than average. But NBC is a broadcast network, and a broadcast network cancelling a show after three weeks is unfortunately nothing new.

Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullsh!t in order to be comfortable?

reply

Well cable show budgets are usually subsidized by the fees cable companies pay to the networks (also shows like Mad Men usually break even with DVD/blu-ray sales). Whereas shows on network TV are supported entirely by advertising and network revenue.
