I have loved Homeland seasons 1-5 very much. I have season 6 on DVR. I have only watched the first two episodes and I have to admit, they have been the worst episodes for me of Homeland to date. A few observations:
1. Carrie seems more concerned protecting a jihad Muslim than fighting them.
2. Quinn is a basket case
3. Carrie is now lying to Saul
So, my questions are simple: 1.Is Season 6 taking a new path for Homeland?
2. Are they now more concerned about protecting individual rights than they are in protecting America?
3. Does it get any better after the second episode? 4.How do you rate season 6 with the previous five seasons?
5. What do you like about season 6?
Our administrations both Democrat and Republican have been selling the public this idea that we must have a "strong" America, that spending enormous amounts on military is for our protection and welfare, when in fact if you look at it objectively, it's probably mostly just good for defense contractors and the military industrial complex. I don't deny that there are people actively trying to hurt America and the west, but it's also important to consider how our own foreign policy deserves some portion of the blame for this. Imagine if we took all the money we spent making war on the middle east and used it for health care and education. Do you think the world would be a safer or more dangerous place? Do you think more or less people would be radicalized to the point where they would want to kill themselves to get revenge? I'm not saying we should stop protecting ourselves, but in this case eliminating thousands of annual bombing sorties would perhaps keep moderate people from turning radical and educating and healing our people would produce citizens who are more likely to help the world become a better place.
This is relevant to Homeland because if you don't protect individual rights... then you are no longer America as the founding fathers envisioned it. We have become more like the British Empire we were trying to escape.
Are there really people trying to hurt us? Really? When the CIA creates people like Osama Bin Laden and Mohammed Farra Aidid, it's a little difficult to see the United States as "being harmed". Bin Laden was a CIA created asset. So are you going to tell me that he suddenly turns on his meal ticket and arranges the murder of more than 3000 people from a cave in Tora Bora?
That money that is being spent on the Military/Industrial complex has more to do with the upper one percentile socking away more money than they know what to do with to ignore those who have to work for a living. Most of these men, and face it most are men, have inherited this "old" money. It's been passed down from generation to generation replete with the gated homes, fast cars, sleek jets and sizable expense accounts. And all of this will be passed down to the next generation who won't have to work for it.
We're not seeing these wars on television anymore. The Pentagon has put a gag order on war coverage. Can't have another unpopular Vietnam now, can we. September 11, 2001 was that watershed where governments aren't elected, they're handed over. Bush got his via the Supreme Court of the United States 5-4 opinion. Trump got there by a Russian Coup. So since 9/11 there hasn't been any kind of war coverage because they're not waging war. It's all concocted. That's what Homeland has been telling us this year.
America ceased to be America the day Kennedy was shot.
I wouldn't be surprised if OBL is somewhere in an underground bunker giving us intel or helping to interpret data that comes our way. Very odd the way they suddenly decided to dump his body in the ocean, muslim burial or not.
I think the harm is overstated to create the boogeyman necessary to generate the necessary billions in congress each year but if you bomb a region for going on forty to fifty years... yes I think there are plenty who mean to hurt us.
As I said, the solution is spending money helping our own people and others get healthy and educated... not bombing poor souls into oblivion.
Oh, of course. I agree totally on your "boogeyman" hypothesis. The reason for the bombing is to keep Israel "safe". Which denotes they have some sort of special snowflake status. Shouldn't Israel learn how to take care of itself by now? I think so. However, both Britain and the United States helped found Israel. They need to keep invested in the region because of that. Instead of saying to Israel either sign a peace deal with Palestine and give them some concessions, or we refuse to continue to support you. Displacing the Palestinians they did to found the State of Israel and continue to support made the United States a target. So if the United States withdraws its support of Israel and supports a peace deal in which Israel and Palestine SHARE the region.
1. Carrie seems more concerned protecting a jihad Muslim than fighting them.
Was Sekou really a Muslim Jihadist, or was he trying to point things out to the public via his Youtube page about their country? That means sanctioned assassinations that were happening inside their own country. That's not wanting Jihad. That's telling true history.
2. Quinn is a basket case
Because of what happened with the gas he inhaled last season and with what Carrie did by waking him early. The doctor said she risked him having a stroke.
3. Carrie is now lying to Saul
Carrie is concerned about getting Frannie back. Saul's not necessarily being truthful with Carrie is he?
Yes, as Homeland does each season. Instead of having each season pick up where the last one left off, it's anthologizing the series. each year takes place in a time jump and a new set of variables.
2. Are they now more concerned about protecting individual rights than they are in protecting America?
Protecting American rights is protecting America. If you allow the government to enact laws that repress what is supposed to be a free peoples, then it's not a free country anymore. Rather, it's an imprisoned one with more laws to tell its people what it can and can't do.
3. Does it get any better after the second episode?
The season is a must-watch for anyone wanting to know what is truly happening in this world. If you loved the show since season one, why stop watching when we only have two seasons left?
4.How do you rate season 6 with the previous five seasons?
I'd say it's a 10/10 because of where the show is taking us this season. You MUST watch all of season six.
5. What do you like about season 6?
Without giving anything away, I'm loving that the show is daring to tell this story at this point in time. It's very topical to what is going on in this world and particularly, The United States under Trump/Putin.
Well, I'm glad I stuck around. Episodes 3 and 4 definitely picked up and I am very glad to see the Quinn of old "almost" resurface. I was really surprised to see Seku car bombed. What a change there- terrorist gets terrorized instead.
I'm going to say, was Sekou a terrorist? I don't think he was. He was a kid recording videos for a Youtube channel. That's all. He did nothing that denoted terrorism which is why Reda defended him and though the charges bogus. Carrie's "sniffer" also smelled something stinky and it proved out right.
I have been watching season 6 for the past two days and I have just finished episode 5. I have to say that this season is just stupid. I loved season 5 but in season 6 both Carrie and Quinn turn into complete lunatics. With Quinn it is kind of understandable but Carrie's behaviour is completely erratic and irresponsible. Blackmailing Conlin, trying to free an Islamic fundamentalist, getting involved with a president elect who has a lot to lose, pressuring Dar Adal (also someone who has a lot to lose), getting untraceable information from that NSA officer (making her look very suspicious) and letting Quinn wander around who is doing all sorts of crazy things. The number of bad decisions she is making is just staggering. It is no longer believable.
