Firstly, doctors look at your age before they diagnosis you, as anything you are experiencing is seen in terms of your age.
Secondly, Ben was 48 when shot, and looked about 50.
I just found that scene weird.
Ben Stiller looks like an average, real life mid-40s guy in this movie.

I think Stiller looks OLDER than his actual age, i.e. he looks mid to late 50s. I haven't seen the second Zoolander movie yet but am curious to know if he was able to pull it off believably.
That all said, I found the bit where the doctor expresses the view that early-40s is a common age to start seeing arthritis surprising. No one I know that age has arthritis yet and we are all late-40s to late-50s. Most of us have trashed knees though thanks to decades of sports. :(
