PTA marathon

This film was wonderfully shot and the music was great but I was confused and it felt a bit slow, I need to watch it again I think.

But anyway I read this before and I wanted to bring it to this message board. What film goes perfectly with each one of PTAs films? These are my choices:

Hard eight - Casino
Boogie nights - Goodfellas
Magnolia I haven't seen but by the premise I would suggest ikuru
Punch-drunk love - moonrise kingdom
There will be blood - no country for old men
The master - Her
Inherent vice - Chinatown

reply

I haven't seen Moonrise Kingdom, but I'd say Harold and Maude fits with Punch-Drunk Love (HM to Arizona Dream and The Science of Sleep)

Short Cuts for Magnolia, although I don't like Short Cuts very much. Six Feet Under if TV counts.

There Will Be Blood - A Most Violent Year, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

The Master - A Serious Man, Inside Llewyn Davis

Inherent Vice is like a mix of Chinatown and The Big Lebowski

reply

I would honestly match Inherent Vice with the Long Goodbye. They almost go arm in arm with each other, especially in the case of the lead protagonist being a bit foolish and the semi-slow, sparse style

Howard Hughes was Italian?

How utterly intriguing

The Long Goodbye was my first comparison and it still holds up. Still, very hard to TRULY compare ANYTHING to Inherent Vice. 10 years from now, it will be a cult classic. It's layered way too much for One Viewing. With that said, it's hard to ignore the "Culture" that seems very Altman-esque
