GENIUS

6.7, people? WTF?

This movie was refined and enlightened filmmaking, a cynical and subversive gut shot to the wretched status quo we human beings accept as reality.

I'm totally blown away by this film. I thought Birdman was a step higher, but this is just shattering.

One of the greatest films I've ever seen.

I agree. It certainly didn't appear that way at first viewing. The opening narration and first 15 min I was really not very interested, but eventually it clicked towards the end and each viewing is a new revelation. I like it more than any other PTA film for sure. Unseated Magnolia as my previous favorite. I like it way more than Birdman, which I appreciated, but didn't love.

To get anything from Pynchon onto the screen takes magnifico ability. Very apt as well as we live in a generation of youth nostalgic for the 60's, happy to see it come and go as long as they can PEAK.

I thought I was used to this experience -- revisiting a so-so film and being surprised to discover that it is in fact great -- but Inherent Vice is definitely the most dramatic recent example of this phenomenon.

I can't say I like it more than Magnolia, but then I've only seen IV three times.
