Possibly crucial detail everyone missed...

At the beginning of the "dangerous hombre" long take, one can clearly spot Katherine Waterston among the cult members. I haven't heard this being brought up anywhere else, so I thought I might as well share this. I can only guess at the significance of her appearance, unless I'm just seeing things.

Also, Inherent Vice is one of the masterpieces of 21st century American cinema, and Anderson's second best work after The Master (in my humble opinion).

Hmm....I'm not too sure. Not sure why she'd be among the cult members if she had already returned.

But yeah, Inherent Vice is fantastic. One of Anderson's best

Howard Hughes was Italian?

If truly intended by Anderson, it is a very Kubrickian styled message. Of course, it is highly possible Doc's later encounters with Shasta were only imagined, and she was either deceased (as implied multiple times in the film, though that may just be symbolic) or somewhere else.

Ugh..pretty sure none of docs experiences with Shasta were imagined. That's such a copout..when is that ever the correct explanation for events that take place in a movie..it's a dream or imagined... Isn't that a no no to shoot a scene but really, it was all a dream. Or imagination. That just defeats the whole purpose unless it's a surrealist arthouse type movie but 9 times out of ten I'd say no.

Nice catch. Tiny panties on her. Not 100% sure it's her, but does appear to be. She's definitely been a patient there to be programmed and/or Rehabbed. Didn't catch that the first four times.
