This film was AWFUL. I'm a massive fan of Joaquin Phoenix and PTA (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, Boogie Nights - these are amazing films). IV was awful, just awful.

I'm not sure if it's one of those films (as other posters suggested) that I need to watch again as I don't even know if I have the patience to watch it again.

AWFUL!!

Did somebody tell you to go watch a rom-com or Transformers after you said it was boring?
Yeah, there seems to be an unrealistic binary system here. Either you're too stupid to get it, or it's a stupid movie. There's no smart people who don't like it or dumb people who like it, apparently.

If you found 'Inherent Vice' 'boring' I am curious why you took the trouble to go on the board and state it? I've always found it irritating. I would never go on a movie board and criticize it. The people on there primarily like the film and want to discuss it. I'm doubtful you could change someone's mind if they like it. People's aesthetics are quite complex. As I asked, why? I am curious. The statements say more about you than the movie, unless you are trained in the field of course, and offer some specific ideas, which in this case you don't.

Go to any board for any movie and you will find many people criticizing the film. Discussion would be boring if it was all about how great a movie was. Sorry if you don't like it, but no one made you click on this thread. Not like I falsely advertised it as being the kind of thread you would prefer!

So why bother criticizing a movie without offering specifics? I didn't find 'Inherent Vice' even slightly 'boring'. Good to look at, funny, unnerving (I should have realized that some police departments hire assassins to remove troublesome people, maybe taking a page from governments :/). I also like Joaquin Phoenix, Anderson and Pynchon. I thought, combine 'The Big Sleep' and 'Chinatown' (2 favorites anyway) and you have 'Inherent Vice'. Interesting finding out about the drug smuggling angles too. There's another fellow I like Benicio del Toro.

I'd say the Big Sleep and the Long Goodbye, then you'd have Inherent Vice 

Agreed. People seem to think that the individual film boards are only for fans of the film. Its not. Its a film board. Its mean for discussion about the film, whether negative or positive.

And I actually didn't hate this movie. I didn't love it either, but it wasn't bad.

What a piece of crap! I'm bored to death.
