I'm not familiar with the book or author. I loved this movie. However, it's pretty obvious the movie is meant to be watched while one is not in right frame of mind. Unfortunately I watched it while in the right frame of mind so the errors were glaringly obvious to me. The good news is that it really didn't matter. The movie was entertaining and fast paced. Highly recommend it.
shareSorry man, but not even, this movie wishes. The 'errors' would be far more obvious to you if you were on something. There's nothing 'trippy' about rude hipsters using hot dogs as phones etc. 'John Dies at the End' is the equivalent of listening to a pontificating 17 year old whose just smoked weed for the first time, waxing philosophical about Pink Floyd.
If you want a good 'Acid-Gore' movie that doesn't insist upon itself so insufferably, I recommend 'From Beyond' or almost anything by Troma.
You should definitely read the book. The movie was too fast paced. They left out 99.9% of the book and changed some of what was left. The book makes a lot more sense (and has a lot more story) and is way funnier. At least in my opinion.
