I am currently watching series one and she is by far the most interesting character. I've not yet seen the final episode in which she commits suicide although I have seen it on YouTube a while back (well some of it anyway). I thought it was pretty unpredictable how she just walks out and topples off (that's where the clip ended on YT-so not sure of what was seen after, it was a fanvid). But it was a well kept secret.
She was the villain of the show for sure, but she was such a complex and strangely likeable in some instances (although only as an on-screen character, not someone I'd like in real life :P).
Well, Persie was supposed to be arrested and send to a prison camp for Nazi collaborateos later on the same day she killed herself. She ruined her relationship with Agnes and Hallam definitely would not take her again as he wants to be reconciled with his wife. On the top of it, she shot Beryl, the fiancee of her former lover (Spargo).
So everyone's pretty much hated her at this point and she knew that she'll be jailed for the rest of her life for both her spying and the attempted murder of Beryl. Knowing that her life's pretty much over, she decided to end it by jumping from the balcony.
I agree that Persie's a very interesting character in UD, probably the one character that saved the show from being totally sucks (Blanche was the other one). I wish the show runners could've explored the backstory of her character and explain to us why she became the evil person that she was. I assume the fact that she's the younger daughter who didn't get much attention from her parents (unlike Agnes) and being the daughter of an impoverished earl who was supposed to lord over everyone else but actually had no money were the reasons she was attracted to fascism and became the evil home-wrecker she's known for. But since the show's not renewed, there's no opportunity to explore her character further now :-(.
It would have been much better if she had took the husband over the rail with her. R.I.P. Star Trek 1966 - 2009 Smile and wave boys...Just smile and wave...
I don't know if Persie actually gave up anything? Yes she was involved but if the Nazi's didn't get anything of value would she have been in prison after the war ended?
