Nearly identical twins

Am I the only one who can't tell the difference between Sir Hallam Holland and The Duke of Kent?

reply

No you're not. Each time I watch the series I have to pick out a distinquishing feature from each of them to tell them apart.

reply

Thank you. Watching the second episode of Series 2, I could not tell them apart. Their American chum also looks uncannily close to them. It's rather irritating. Then again, I'm finding the whole stinking mess of U/D 2 irritating.

I agree with you regarding similarities in appearances of the actors. However I can't agree UD is a mess. Though I am in 100% accord w/you regarding puppy mills - an abomination.

reply

They're identical indeed. And I have problems distinguishing Lady Agnes from Beryl, unless if Beryl's wearing her maid uniform. They're both very identical as well (and in the final episode Beryl changed her hairstyle so that she looks like Lady Persie).

I think it has something to do with how homogenous today's actors (both male and female) are - most look pretty much like they're cut from the same fashion magazine. And few of them have much screen presence, another reason they're more or less indistinguishable from one another.

I thought that they got two brothers into the cast, but after seeing the credits, I was wrong obviously.

reply

I can't tell them apart. I thought they were the same actor doing both parts.

What we have here is failure to communicate!

reply

They look different enough to me... Maybe they're not that far from each other of course, having pretty much the same style and "colouring". Though, no offense but you people have pretty bad face recognition if you mistake the two! They act and sound completely different as well.

And I think neither of these actors are examples of "cut from same fashion magazine with little screen presence". There are many that are, but not these two, especially Blake Ritson.

reply

Normally, my sense of facial recognition is quite keen; however, that must be in response to well-written, well-produced programs, and U/D 2011/12 could never be placed in either of those categories. Some of the women in the series also look too much alike; if some of them didn't have maid caps on, I'd mistake them for their mistress. I find these performers and their characters eminently forgettable. In the original U/D, even the guest players remain memorable and distinguishable.

No. However, the Duke of Kent reminds me of Pee Wee Herman.

All white men with dark hair look the same to you? Haha :)
The Lady and the Maid, beryl, though - that's laughable. You need to go to your optometrist!

reply

They do look similar and if you watch fleabag the guy they call bus rodent (you'll know why) looks very similar to them but like he is the brother that didn't come out quite right.

There is a certain type of posh Brit that looks like them I think maybe a gene pool thing?

I was watching the show when my wife had her friends over drinking some wine hanging out. All successful professionals and i made the mistake of assuming they'd find those guys attractive. So I made a comment and they had reactions from gross to ewww.

Always, interesting to me what we as men think women find attractive and what women find attractive. I would have thought they'd swoon over them.

I am pretty sure that i am in the category of no one swoons over me- to be fair I don't look like posh brits.
