You're right, I don't go on the Avengers board saying there's no hold on reality in that film, but the Avengers isn't trying to make parallels to real world situations. There was a coup in Thailand last year, which though it was certainly politically troubling, was for the most part peacefully executed. Here we have a film, which like the Avengers is fantasy, but unlike the Avengers has enough of a hold on reality that it can influence people's ideas of world events. I do not throw around the word racism and xenophobia without any consideration, and who knows, maybe the trailer is false advertising, and the film itself is more nuanced, but the way that trailer is cut shows South East Asia is either the exotic land of mystery or a dangerous place where white people get killed by mask wearing militants, neither approach is accurate, and neither is fair to the people who actually live their day to day lives, often under very difficult circumstances in these areas.
