They saw white people, and spoke English. What's there to understand?

They also only used english when they were talking to the guys with guns to lower their weapons.

What should they have spoken to people from another country? Welsh? French? I was brought up to believe that English is the widest spoken 2nd language. Common sense and all that...

English is a more universal language, if they see a group of of unknown people there is a higher chance they would understand English.

Regardless, it was done much more for the viewing audience than anything.

Using English to speak to the family made sense but I was surprised when they also spoke English to the rebels.

haha. good point. i didnt notice that. when watching the film i figured english would be spoken to them if they were white. but allot of the rebels didnt understand english

Yeah, it wasn't the most realistic part of the movie. However, I, for one, am glad they said it in English. As an English-speaker, it was more impactful for me than subtitles would have been!
