LOL, that was hilarious and trivially overdramatized scene. There's chaos going on, but you have to make this scene look soo dramatic and never-seen-before LOL.
I don't think it was over dramatic. This is the moment that the youngest daughter realizes the severity of the situation. In America her basic needs were always met but amongst savages they too have to act like savages.
shareI take it you don't have kids yourself.. It was a realistic scene as that's exactly what would happen with a small child! And the distress of being able to do nothing for your child in the situation would really hit home for the parent and would be very "dramatic"..

But in these kinds of movies, they always overlook a child's human-ness. It's also possible that kids are having an adrenaline rush that will take over. Fear can do that. Even to a child.
That really tore me apart, the dialogue that takes place in that scene about how it's okay to goin her pants, and Beeze says she is not a baby, I thought it really drove the point home of realism.

It was more to my thinking that with the onslaught of explosions, gun fire, watching people die before their very eyes, mom and dad being visibly frightened, having to run, being thrown from one roof to the other by dad, all of that physical activity, adrenaline pumping....seems like their bladder, and sphincter muscles would have already released whatever they were holding during all of that chaos!

The parents shat themselves already from the situation so I was surprise the younger kid had to ask.
shareThe fact that she soiled her pants was never resolved in the remainder of the film so I had to chuckle regularly when I realized that she made it through with crapped pants.
