I hate it when films just throw in an attempted/rape scene for shock valaue, it wasnt at all needed.and didnt go with the plot, Fair enough the guy chasing them were killers, but saying that the group of them were rapist just irritated me.
Yeah as soon as that started I knew the attempted rape would be thwarted at the last second. It obviously wasn't the kind of film that could handle that kind of violence. The scene annoyed me too.
For me, it was even worse that the film makers' attempted to inject humor into the scene immediately following it...where Pierce Brosnan and his buddy (Kenny Rogers) are bickering about who was going to kill who. Then, Kenny Rogers shoots the remaining rebel who is trying to escape and says something along the lines of, "there, happy?" That was just so bad!
was thinking the same thing. was all serious and then they start bickering amongst themselves at an attempt at hunour. i guess they needed a way to explain to the audience how they their enemy targeting code worked.
Considering how in the end those sickos wanted lucy to kill her own dad... The rape scene was not far fetched at all. Obviously to hurt their goal victim the most they wanted the husband to watch his wife get rape, then shot, then husband will get shot.
You obviously know nothing about wartime and the terrifying reality of how Quickly men become animals when the threat of repercussions is gone. Read about any conflict in the history of man when law and order is even temporarily suspended and rape is rife. My God at the end of world war 2 the Russians were raping their own women as they set them free from nazi labour camps. The rape scene being included was totally realistic, if directed badly. It wasn't thrown in for shock value.
Sadly I think it is the opposite. Rape is not about having sex but about humilliating the enemy. So it made a lot of sense. In fact I will asume the rebels will rape many more foreigners women in that situation instead of killing them.
