Why did he leave? I've seen photos of him in boxing training so obviously he was preparing and into it. Wtf happened???

I'd like to know as well. I'm disappointed. Still at least his replacement is Edgar Ramirez.

Bernal had another movie role, and they couldn't change the shooting schedule because they would've lost Robert De Niro, who had another movie set to start shooting after Hands of Stone. I actually think Edgar Ramirez is a better choice, anyway. He was awesome in Carlos.
