Horror or not?

I thought that those people who'd die in the earthquake will somehow wake up as zombies and kill the survivors. But it doesn't seem so.

So should I expect a horror film or what? It seems realistic and something in the likes of The Road and Book of Eli....(say, thriller)

It makes an half hearted attempt at horror with some other scenes but none of it is scary by any means.

Id say more a disaster thriller with gore elements

I would call it horror in that its intention is to disturb the viewer (whereas a thriller's intention is to entertain the viewer). It's not a horror film in the supernatural or serial killer sense. But it would still be classified as a horror due to the main intention behind the film, which is to horrify. The Road would be a drama (albeit a depressing one for some). And Book of Eli is an action film (that at a stretch could be classified as drama).

It's disaster horror.

Traditional supernatural horror tries to draw fear from the unknown. This film tried to draw fear from a disaster situation.

But I also found it had a lot of black humour moments - which is more a trademark of horror than disaster type films.
