like an enlightenment of just the extent of the terrible things that can happen on this earth, like an eye opener to make us conscious of it? That's the impression I got when I saw it, that in contrast to fun, thrill and entertainment this one above all was meant more as an enlightener/lesson.

this was made with the intension of making a fun horror movie. spoiler alert! the tsunami thing was just 1) an element to justify the chaos that leads to further events and 2) a setup for the twist ending.
