cool film... well.. until...... (spoiler)

until the ending. I won't be as dramatic as to say it ruined the movie, but there's some things that bothered me.

When the slutty sister realize that the fireman is a prisoner...because he has tattoos!! I mean, yeah fireman don't get tattoos right! I know that earlier he says to the woman who killed Pollo that he don't have any, but still... lots of people have tattoos, doesn't mean anything.

and I find it sad that when she realized he is a prisonner, he turn into a killing machine. I truly think humans are garbage for the most part and find it plausible that the gang go on a killing spree and raping women .. I personnaly think that in chaotic case like that, people go nuts... but I don't know, the fact that he was clearly helping them all the way through, I would've like that he still continues to help them even if he's a prisoner.. oh well

other things, it bothered me that the surviving sister didn't pick the axe after she killed the "fireman". She saw her friend getting raped and killed, Eli burned alive ( well she didn't see him burn, but she saw the cadaver) Pollo shot to death, her sister killed by a maniac and she didn't think to pick it for self defense!! I mean c'mon! I know she's in a shock mental state, but after seing all those things, I'm sure everybody would've had the reflex to pick it.

The last thing I will say is about the very ending... the one with the Tsunami. I thought that when she get out of the tunnel, her reaction of laughing and then crying were intense and well acted. I just think that it should've been this shot with the Tsunami in the background. The acting was strong there, emotional. I think it was kind of dumb for her to faint, get back up and then get killed by the tsunami... it make it less powerfull than seing the tsunami, laughing and crying in despair.... well at least it's my opinion.

Overall I think the movie is good. I got the tension of the earthquake and people panicking, I liked the street chaos. I liked Eli Roth in this, and I was really suprised he got killed. I was sure he was going to survive. I was feeling very bad with the rape scene and cheer Pollo up when he killed the bastard.
I though it was a good flick... like I said, just those things about the ending were a little disappointing.

I like your suggestion, would have been better if we got to see that she was actually laughing hysterically at the incoming tsunami.

Someone said that the prisoners of that specific prison had panther tattoos, and the fireman had one.

He was clearly a psycho. He only wanted to help people as long as they didn't know who he was. And he didn't have any trouble lying and making stuff up as he went along.

I get what you're saying. That ending and the ending we got would've been ironic, but yours sounds more cruel.

I agree with you 100% about the ending. Having her pass out for no reason and then wake up just in time to get killed by the Tsunami was a let down. About the tattoos however, I have read a lot of comments on here complaining about that, and I think people are reading too far into that. The writers needed us to associate criminals with tattoos early in the movie in order for us all to understand when the twist came and to know the fireman was really a baddie. We all got the twist at the end so I think it was effective.

I agree with pretty much everything you say. Hell, they could have even toned down the "crazy prisoners rioting/raping/murdering" stuff and just stuck with the survival elements and it would have worked just as well.

I thought it was a good flick, much better than it's rating. It had shock elements ad kept me glued. Much better than movies I've seen rated much higher. The fireman reveal was the only down side IMO.

I ws kind of expecting it----the tsunami was unrealistic -that was a 200-500 foot wave;

Most Tsunamis come in as normal or larger waves-it's just that they KEEP ON COMING-they don't roll back out....and they pile up- still for a low budget film it was a realistic mega wave

When she starts laughing, the ocean is still calm. It isn't until she wakes up and starts walking away that she then turns around and sees the wave of the tsunami coming at her.

Laughing from all the stress and near dying of the night, not having her anxiety meds with her since her purse was stolen, and to then get to the water and see it's acting like a normal ocean tide. And they'd been so worried about trying to find a safe place because of the tsunami warnings.
