Camcorder battery life?

Just wondering how all those camcorders kept their batteries charged? In 88, there was no lithum ion batteries, only ni-cad and the battery life in continual use was probably no more than 1-2 hours. He would be changing out batteries three times as much as the tapes.

AC adapters on the stationary cameras. Even the one that sweeps back and forth.

Back in the Stone Age, we didn't run camcorders on batteries when there was a wall outlet available. ;-)
