Why Did This One Do So Much Better than 2?

and not even by a little bit. it opened higher opening weekend and finished almost near the original's film gross. was this one just more anticipated?

That happens a lot with sequels, for some reason. Perhaps people are wary after seeing a good first film, that the sequel will stink.

Frankly, the public may be right. The second film did kind of stink. I love all 4 films, but Part 2 is my least favorite.

I feel the opposite. PA2 had a better build-up and was more convincing as "found footage". PA3 wasn't convincing at all and frankly had a terrible ending.

I think it's more like they liked the 2nd one, and didn't know the third one was terrible until they'd already spent their money. :P

that's exactly how i feel about PA 3: not scary, phoned in and with a terrible ending

I really liked the shocking ending of this one. PA2 & PA3 were really good IMHO. 

Part 2 isn't bad, but this one is a huge improvement in my opinion. It's the second best of the series behind the 1st. Perhaps word of mouth spread about how much better it is than Part 2 and that's why it did so well.
