Broadcast News?
Two episodes into the series and the storyline seems a lot like Broadcast News with a side of espionage. It's good and I love the British dramas.
shareIt is nothing like Broadcast News which was a comedy about news room people..that is the only similarity. The Hour is a serious drama about a new news show like 60 min that started in the 50's and was for investigative serious journalism, unlike the infotainment news we get today which is very slanted and biased.
Back then, news wasn't based on ratings, it was a public service to inform people, now anything flies for news for those with ADD who aren't interested in the serious reporting we had til this last decade.

I've since watched the series and they borrowed a good bit from Broadcast News. The love triangle, the serious female producer, the pretty boy announcer that doesn't have a feel for the news like the less pretty boy newsman who wants to be an announcer, etc.
shareThose are small things that would show up in any show about a newsroom. One is a contemporary romantic comedy set in a newsroom and the other is a noir piece about a murder set in a news environment. Big difference. You can nitpick apart any two movies and find similarities, same as with life, but in no way do these have any major plot lines that are the same. If someone said to me..go see this movie the Hour it is just like Broadcast News..I would be upset when I got done because I would be expecting a romantic comedy. Stop nitpicking things..a bad habit of your generation.
