Can some clear this up for me please?

Hello

I watched The Hour backwards and I've just finished watching the first series, which explained a lot things.
Anyway, what I don't understand is there seemed to be so many gaps between the end of series 1 and the opening episode of series 2.

For example, we end when Bel has been sacked and yet at the opening of series 2, she's still doing her job and the programme is still running. Freddie is suddenly off travelling and his Dad has died (even though he didn't seem that ill) and suddenly (even though it's supposed to be the same flat) Freddie's house has transformed totally...how much time is supposed to have passed?

I think it's supposed to be about 6-8 months after the Series 1 finale.
I assume they gave Bel back her job because she helped expose the Russian mole at the BBC, and because she was very good at her job. I think Freddie left because he needed to clear his head after finding out that he was on the Brightstone list of people who could possibly be turned against Great Britain, and because a person that he trusted was a spy. His dad wasn't all that healthy, and with Freddie away who was taking care of him? I'm not sure about the flat either. That was a change I noticed too.
