money solves everything, hollywood style

I loved the premise of the movie and I loved the actors - especially how the supporting actors were allowed to shine. Hearing a whole soundtrack of Lennon songs (master recordings, not copies or covers) was pretty incredible.

But I was left feeling a little shallow by the fairytale aspect of how Danny's money was the quick solution to the story. If Danny hadn't been this wealthy Rod Stewart character, he wouldn't have bought his way into his family's life or done anything for his son & granddaughter's problems, simple as that.

Ironically, the real letter from Lennon was a message arguing that it's ok to get rich.

I didn't think it was a whole soundtrack of Lennon songs. There were parts of a few Lennon songs. That must've been expensive to pay for, was what I was thinking.

Yeah, I was a little bothered by the money thing. But I suppose you could look at it as though he was using what he had (money) to help his new family and make amends.

I suppose the moral of the story was that his money, contrary to his thinking when he was young (that money would interfere with his artistic vision and his soul), hadn't changed him at all. He still had a good heart, which was what his manager told the son at the end.

It's true. Hollywood does sell to us that money solves everything. At the same time though, they tell us (over and over) that money isn't everything. So it's to be taken perhaps that everything isn't anything, or something. Not quite sure. But it's always confusing to me, that place, Hollywood.

Why is that ironic? The fictional letter doesn't really say anything different; it's all about staying true to yourself despite becoming rich and famous.

Although it's funny that you saw Danny as a Rod Stewart character. I saw Neil Diamond. I wonder who other people connected with Danny Collins.
