Helen's Story (S1, E3) ****SPOILERS****

I really felt for her as i did for most of these characters. But i just don't understand the court system. Maybe i'm missing something?

As much as i didn't want her to get charged, i felt for sure she would have been convicted considering the charge was for ARSON. She admitted to burning down the warehouse, hell, she was even at the scene of the crime.

But the jury found her not guilty?

....man, i did not see that coming.

The thing about the cases in this series is that we hardly get to see the case being presented in court - we mostly see the story that landed the accused in court and it ends with the verdict.

With Helen her story was so sympathetic that it's likely she presented a case that won over the jury.

It's called jury nullification. If jurors knew the likely sentences of some defendants it would be much more common.
