I have to admit this movie is a bit odd in that there is a lot left open
to interpretation, i think. It's hard to really keep straight what is
happening in real life, and what is simply going on in her head.
I know as i watched it the first time, when she heads downstairs and there's
that blurry shot in the background of 'a man' standing there, i remember thinking
that man looked JUST like her dad, and it was out of focus on purpose
so that you couldn't identify him.
As i recall: She thinks she hears a noise upstairs, the dad and she go
up to investigate. I think it's noticeable during the investigation that
the dad certainly has a creepy vibe about him. He tells her to get to work
packing, and has she's packing she finds the tin with the pictures in them.
After she starts fiddling with the tin, that's when her dad is 'attacked'.
I think the tin sets off her other personality.
I think that's the only instance where she COULD have attacked him, but
that would mean that everything else that happens after that takes place inside
of her head. I think the 'man' we see in the background IS her father, but
it's her fighting with the memories of what happened to her when she was
a child at the hands of her father.
