I'm so tired of seeing that cliche ending, it's such a lazy way out

Which part of the ending are you talking about? I think the twist about her dad did make it a bit of a cop out.

The first hour of the film was incredible. Then, when they drifted into "ehh boy, not this again" territory, I wanted to slap the writer and directors.
