that was supposed to be her dad?

the guy with the salt and pepper hair, before i noticed her refer to him as "daddy" or 'dad' I thought he was into her. He's way too young looking to play her father. I thought it was a family friend slightly older than her. Not sure how old her character was supposed to be though.

Elizabeth Olsen was in her early 20s in this movie but IMO she could have passed for an older teen. As for her so called father he could have been 40. Some people look younger for their age.

I agree that he looked too young to be her father. In the DVD commentary, one of the directors (they're husband and wife) says they wanted someone who looked like an "average father" or something like that, and I thought that in that case, they'd done a poor job of casting! Too young-looking (although 20 years older than Olsen) and "movie-star" handsome.

If someone has a child in their teens, by the time they're 40, and that child is grown up, of course they're gonna look young for their age because they're still young! All parents with grown kids aren't in their 50s or 60s, like everyone here sees to think. And,yeah, even some parents can look young for their age.

I thought the same thing (or even that maybe the 2 actors were dating IRL and their chemistry was poking through well just his chemistry)

but I know now he was into his daughter like that because he was a sick fawk

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Yeah that REALLY bugged me - all three characters looked like they could easily be the same age to me; daughter, father and uncle. None of them looked like they had more than 10 years inbetween them to be honest. Dad looked like a man in his early 30s with his hair dyed grey to look older...

As for the poster on the soapbox going "NOT ALL PARENTS ARE FOSSILS YOU KNOW!"... there is that, and then there is casting actors who look like siblings as though they are at least 18 years apart (presuming they weren't minors when they had kids). That's just a bit silly and if you find that notion offensive because you believe parents are wrongly assumed to be old goats... you need to find yourself an actual problem to advocate for.

It too bugged me when I saw it. The very first shot, I was in awe of how young the dad and uncle were but I just googled the actors and there is a 20 year difference between the dad actor and 17 year difference between the uncle and Elizabeth Olsen. So it could work, but like you said it was a bad casting choice.
