Why was Terry Crews escalated to play the black guy in this franchise???

Don't get me wrong, i find Terry a good actor and an awesome comedian, but the closest he came of being an action hero in movies was playing the dead black guy in Terminator Salvation. If the film needed a black guy, why didn't they escalate Wesley Snipes, Laurence Fishburne, Samuel L. Jackson, Denzel Washington or Will Smith?

I am repeating myself from the EXP1 board:

I really don't think Will Smith would do a film like this. He is a little too expensive for a movie like this and second of all, he hardly does R-Rated movies anymore. I think the last R-Rated movie he did was "Bad Boys II."

I don't know about Laurence Fishburne. Denzel Washington doesn't seem like he would work in a movie like this.

Wesley Snipes would have worked if he wasn't locked up when this movie was in development. Yes, I know he was in "Brooklyn's Finest," but I think that was filmed some time before he got locked up.

All I need is one mic...

A little late to the party...

Wesley Snipes is listed as being in the 3rd film. It'll be interesting to see what the new additions do...

Because Terry Crews is *beep* awesome. He was Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho for god's sake.

Has Carl Weathers kept himself in good enough shape to have been in these? If he had, he would've fit the bill of an aging action star.

Yeah I think Carl Weathers has been keeping himself in good shape. I too think he'd be great for future Expendables films. Apollo *beep* Creed.

"Escalate"? Ha ha, I've escalated that you must be black.

reply

You're a racist pig. And no, i'm not black.

reply

So what does the word "escalate" mean?

He's not just the trademark black guy. You got to look at his attitude. The characters that Terry Crews portrays always have this burst of masculine energy that none of the actors you listed can match.

reply

I think Terry Crews is perfect for the role.

He's certainly built for it, and he has the exaggerated machismo expected of the role. He plays it so well.

-Snipes is/was in Prison.
-Fishburne is unlikely to be interested.
-The same can be said for both Jackson & Denzel.

Will Smith is on a whole different level. NONE of the actors in this film have made a salary/contract anything CLOSE to what Smith commands on a per-picture basis. Not even Arnold.

In the end, it's because none of the other actors you indicated have the ridiculous 'flair' that Crews brought to the cast. Crews can't do anything that doesn't make me laugh, even in an action film.

I compiled a list of guys who would have played Terry Crews character:

Mr. T: out of shape

Carl Weathers: out of shape

Bill Duke: could have been an option

Sidney Pontier: has one to many Oscars

Denzel Washington: why would he be in this movie?

Samuel Jackson: what for? so he could say "SAY WHAT AGAIN! SAY WHAT AG... I DARE U I DOUBLE DARE YOU M@#@#@#@!!

Robert Downey Jr: definitely the best choice, as seen how he was able to pull it off on Tropic Thunder. He would have probably filmed the movie for free

50 cent: another good option

Mr Slave: probably not the best option

Arsenio Hall: a good choice, taking his great performance in "Coming to America"

Queen Latifah: probably would have out-shined everyone else in the movie.

Ving Rhames: another good choice, though not as good as Arsenio Hall

Tiny Zeus Lester, just so he can knock a MFer out. Michael Jai White would fit also. I would like to see Naveen Andrews(Sayid from Lost)in the 3rd install as a bad as Muslim guy from India(yes there are Muslims there).

I agree with your highlighting his 'flair', he mostly seems to shout "YEEEEAAAAH!" after shooting stuff.

Makes me think of Tyrese in F&F films, the franchises are essentially the same for different generations. Though now that Statham is in F&F7 and the series will hopefully bow out gracefully along with its other leading man Paul Walker, I wonder if the actors will crossover?

Anyways, Terry Crews, "YEEEEAAAH!", ain't no one doing that any better.

I think Crews has done an awesome job but yeah he's hardly a name you get excited to see on the roster. I think the most obvious choice which I'm surprised no one has suggested so far is Michael Jai White. He's badass and cut just like Crews, but also he's a known action movie star, his martial arts abilities would add some serious heat to the fight scenes and despite all that he's probably quite affordable :)

reply

Finally, someone who agrees with me! I agree with everything you said regarding Crews. I would have loved Wesley Snipes to be in it from the get go, but unfortunately his tax and legal issues held him back until the third installment. They should have gone with Carl Weathers, as he is truly expendable given his involvements in the Rocky franchise and the first Predator.

Why are we only allowed to have 1 black guy in these movies? You are aware both Terry and Wesley were in #3 right?
