...why make a free roam and not allow you to blow things up and put your gun on anyone you please? I understand these limitations during the story, but I don't see what the problem is with GTA anarchy after the story.
I KNOW THAT! If you were allowed to act insane during the story, then the game wouldn't have the same immersive feel as it does, but afterwards, it just feels like a waste of an open world.
I agree. I think a lot could have been done and keep the good cop vibe. Random Crime, Most Wanted List, Movie theater with News reels, Mini-Games, Oh and maybe let you actually interact with the environment. All without going for GTA violence. I agree somewhat that once the story is over. Whats the point in keeping that Good Cop Vibe. It dosnt matter because once your done with the Story theres really nothing to do. Overall the open world was a waste. They should gone the Heavy Rain route and forgot the open world.
The open world definitely added to the game, though. If felt more immersive. The world was more of a backdrop for the whole game. It's also too large to be expected to explore anyway, so...
Yeah, I was impressed with how big the map was aswell. I think that's 1 thing that makes up for the utter lack of gameplay and interactivity. The developers placed far too much emphasis on visuals and not gameplay which is a BIG BIG MINUS.
Overall the open world was a waste. They should gone the Heavy Rain route and forgot the open world.
Then people would have complained it was too similar to HR, or why can't I drive to the crime scenes and locations, or why is there no exploration, etc.
I fail to understand why most people do not "get" this game. It's not GTA, it's not meant to be GTA. It's a game about detective work. It's meant to be "real world". One cop does not take down an entire city of criminals and random crimes on his own, a cop does not stop off in the middle of a case to play mini games or watch movies. Having these distractions would remove the player from the "real world" motif. I agree, these distractions are fine for GTA...but not L.A Noire.
Also, why does an open world game HAVE to have all these distractions anyway? You do not get that with any other game design. People just accept the game for what it is.
If this was billed as being "GTA in the 40's", I'd agree with a lot of what is being said. But it's not. It's a game that uses the open world idea and impliments a "new" gameplay aesthetic. The open world is just the backdrop that add to the "real world" feeling, not the gameplay focus.
I feel that got a good ballance there between the map being so open and a "realistic" reproduction of 1940's L.A and giving the player just enough "freedom" to explore.

We "get" the game, my issue is with all the car chases & shoot outs, if it were supposed to be just a detective game, then stick with the formula of the early missions. L.A. Noire would have been a better experience if there were things to do in-between cases, whats the point of all the enterable populated shops, restaurants, bars etc, only to take up space on the disc. I'll just add, upon completion, why are most buildings used in missions inaccessible???
Again, it's supposed to tell the story of a detective working cases. Going off and 'doing stuff' is not part of the storytelling or gameplay mechanic. Car/foot chases and shootouts are however. A detective does not just turn up at a crime scene look around and go home you know.
How can one state they 'get' the game...then complain about things not in the game that are not rellevant?
Again, the 'open world' is just a backdrop and NOT part of the gameplay mechanic. A detective does not wonder off and start random enounters when investigating a case. Why can you go into open shops and restaurants, etc and not do anything? Cos you can. Try it now, go into a shop but don't buy anything and leave...do you 'get' it yet? They are there to portray a 'working' city...that's the point.
As for why the buildings are not accessble...why would they be? Again a detective does not wonder around going into people's homes or random locations for no reason.
Clearly you do not 'get' the game at all. You prove this quite well, no need to keep on.

Am I the only one who noticed that they DID put something in to make exploring the city fun? They're called film reels and badges. Collecting all the cars is annoying, especially that last one (whatever it ends up being). But I thought getting the film reels was a great way to see the city that they designed.
If you want mass destruction and rampage, then you came to the wrong game.
"Are you in the army?" "No man, I just have short hair."
I, too, loved the game. But I agree that although it kind of makes sense for them not to allow free roam mayhem during the game, I think they should've allowed it afterwards.
