They stuck in lots of references to that movie/book into this game. It was almost like watching a movie version of the game. Really good movie and a must see if you are a fan of the game.

Yeah, I went back and watched it again after playing and I was surprised. They pretty much lifted a few characters right out of the movie and put them in the game.

Actually, LA Confidential (which I love, both the book and the film) lifted A LOT from early noir, books by the original noir authors (Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler etc).
I love Ellroy's work, but to me it's an homage to noir, it never really feels like noir itself.
