It is called la NOIRE for a reason

look i dont know why they put that e on the end, but the ending was FANTASTIC

Noir films typically have bad endings, or least not happy endings

they usually have an antihero (phelps) in the lead who uncovers curruption but ultimately allows it to continue to better himself (la confidential)

everything does not get wrapped up in a nice little package,

Its why films of the 40's and 50's are tenfold better than the *beep* cliche crap hollywood regurgitates these days

I think the e was used for branding purposes. L.A. Noire is much more distinct than L.A. Noir

Agreed. The game is in the same vain of LA Confidential and Chinatown.

If you ask me any genre that has to end the same way every time. Isn't a Genre, But instead is a Cliche. Secondly as a player, The ending just made me feel i wasted my time. And as it turns out, it did.

The ending where a character dies is only good if it's motivated, that it served the story a purpose (Red Dead Redemption) This game did not do that. Felt like they threw it in for the sake of it. Also, you had been playing as Jack Kelso for so long that you really didn't care if Cole survived. When I saw that water take him away, I was like "Ahh, there he goes!!!". It was ridiculous.

Yes, that sums it up almost perfectly.

Switching to Kelso at all was one of the poorest decisions ever made in a computer game.

A French-Canadian explained the title for me:

"LA is a city. City in french is Ville, which is a feminine noun. Noir = Masculine, Noire = Feminine."

I agree many people (hate this phrase but it fits) do not "get it".

The "E" is on the end as you can spell it both ways. Noire is used more as a descriptve of a place/city. Example: Montagne Noire, Pointe-Noire, etc.
So L.A Noire makes more sense than L.A Noir as it's describing the city itself...not the style/tone of the game's setting. Though technically it's both.

As for the ending. It's was pretty obvious early on Phelps had to die. Just a shame he went out the way he did, not quite "heroic" enough for me.

I just hope Team Bondi (and others) churn out more in this style.
It's a great game, but so many improvements could be made. Still for a "first" attempt into this style, cracking job.
