Rockstar you disappointed me:-( 3 out of 10

ok this is my critical review of la noir, I have played many rockstar games and i usually love them I beat GTA5 in 5 days i'm usually pretty hardcore in games that interest me, I will admit i'm not a hardcore buy every game that comes out, i always play and beat the gta i also play and beat the mgs and i like mafia 1 and 2. not a huge sports, unless its soccer, gamer or anything like that.
ok

this i'm going to give a 3 out of 10

I did not beat the game because i lost interest after about 4 hours, i got through about 15 missions and then was done. ok the positive

- Amazing VO
- Amazing Graphics
- Amazing depiction of la in the 40s
- ok storyline

and now the cons
- Horrible game play
The missions seem monotonous and boring, also after a mission you don't get to free roam or do what you want you must go to the next mission which is more of the same, figure out the mystery and question the perp etc. Yes i know its a game about a cop rising through the ranks but a little variety of missions would be nice maybe a side story of cole's personal life and a few missions that revolve around that?
- No customization what so ever.
In mafia 2 and gta you can customize your character - for example change outfits to what you want choose a variety of weapons cars etc.
- if you don't feel you did a mission right you have to start from the beginning of the mission and wait thru the mini cut scenes
- no random mayhem like gta

idk when it comes down to it everyone is entitled to their own opinion but i was disappointed b/c i was expecting something more like gta. that is why my post is titled what it is.

for the record i'm not a troll or anything by any means ( see my previous posts on other boards) I just wanted to state my opinion and see if anyone else feels the same way

seems like most people who didn't like this game say the same thing. you had to have heard before playing that 1) this is a game about investigation, 2) it is an interactive story, 3) you are a cop so you can't go on rampages, and 4) that the gameplay was heavily tilted toward reading facial expressions and interrogating people. most of that was said on just about every preview and review i came across for this game.

you have to judge a game on it's merits and what it is trying to be. this is more of a point and click style adventure story with open world elements than a GTA style sandbox.

i will agree though that i wouldn't mind more things to do in the world that the developers set up.

So basically you couldn't shoot people up or have sex with hookers so it was a bad game? Wait, what?

I kind of agree with that.
But you do know there's free roam right? Go to "Cases" and you can free roam by choosing a desk and the corresponding option ("Streets of LA").

- No customization what so ever.

lol what? Get Saints Row dude. Not even GTA IV offers that. And please, Rockstar published the game, they weren't the major developers behind the game. Team Bondi is.

In mafia 2 and gta you can customize your character - for example change outfits to what you want choose a variety of weapons cars etc.

You have a few outfits to choose from. In terms of character customization, I don't see too much of a difference between Mafia 2 and LA Noire. As for the guns, I don't really have problems with that. I mean, gun play isn't the biggest part of the game I was cool with that.

- if you don't feel you did a mission right you have to start from the beginning of the mission and wait thru the mini cut scenes

That's why you would rather read a guide before plowing through the game.

- no random mayhem like gta

We should all be glad you're not a cop.

This isn't a Rockstar game, they published it.

Oh here we go again. LAN Fan's. " How dare you bring up GTA. GTA is the worst thing that ever happened to the Human Race. The fact its fun, must be stopped. I mean you must play this game. You must pick up alot of pointless random object. Some that lead you nowhere. You must talked to people and gazes at there perfect CGI Faces. And asked them tons of pointless questions over and over and over and over again. Must put away a bunch of innocent people. Must drive in a good looking city that has no function what so ever. Must walk to doors and knock. Must play a boring by the book cop. Must watch the pointless ending. You must, you must. Because if you dont you have no brain, you have no soul. You must be a 12 years old. Because only a 12 year old could like GTA with all its fun. Fun must be stopped. We are one. We are all connected. And we all must play this game. Play the game. Must play the game."

I agree. I usually buy anything Rockstar puts their name on, but I couldn't even finish this game.

Guys, guys, we are falling for a troll here. While it may seem on the surface to be an honest opinion, even though they were wrong about the clothes, there is one glaring problem. the OP said " i lost interest after about 4 hours, i got through about 15 missions" The OP expects us to believe that in 4 hours, they beat 15 of the story missions. On first play, that is impossible. Hell even if you know where all the clues are the second time round it's probably impossible as well.

This would mean, excluding all the DLC and the PS3 exclusive case as an assumption, that in 4 hours, the OP beat all the cases up to the last case in the Vice section.

You do get new outfits and such in the game. So i have no idea what the "lack of customization" bit is about in this review.

ok this is my critical review of la noir

Ok, this is my "critical" retort.

I have played many rockstar games and i usually love them

A bad start from the off.
This is NOT a "Rockstar game", they did not develop it. So a pointless remark.

I beat GTA5 in 5 days

That's impressive for a game that has not yet been made.
Well done.

The missions seem monotonous and boring

Well what did you think a game about searching for clues and questioning suspects was going to be like?
I don't know about you, but I was expecting to be searching for clues and questioning suspects.

also after a mission you don't get to free roam or do what you want you must go to the next mission which is more of the same

And?
But there is a Freeroam mode.

figure out the mystery and question the perp etc.

I know, in a game about being a detective you have to be a detective.

would be nice maybe a side story of cole's personal life and a few missions that revolve around that?

What does that have to do with solving crimes?

In mafia 2 and gta you can customize your character - for example change outfits to what you want choose a variety of weapons cars etc.

And you can chose weapons, cars and clothing in this too...so what is your point?

if you don't feel you did a mission right you have to start from the beginning of the mission and wait thru the mini cut scenes

You can skip most of the stuff you have already seen.
But I will agree being FORCED to see stuff you already have is annoying...that's annoying, not game breaking.

no random mayhem like gta

Probably has something to do with the fact it's NOT GTA?
You can't do random GTA mayhem in the FIFA games either.

Also, it's a game about being a detective...how would running around murdering random people and blowing up vehicles have worked there?
Would this not have taken the player out of the "real world" idea of being a detective?
"Random mayhem" has no place in L.A Noire at all.

i was expecting something more like gta. that is why my post is titled what it is.

Again it's NOT a Rockstar game and had NOTHING to do with GTA, so it's YOU at fault not the game.
So why were you expecting something like GTA from a different development team that stated from day 1 they were making a game about being a detective where you have to find clues and question suspects?

I just wanted to state my opinion and see if anyone else feels the same way

The opinion of that you are playing a game that has NOTHING to do with GTA, yet you expect it to be like GTA?

Your review is biased.

First off you compare the game to GTA and other similar games. This game is not set up like any of those games that focus on action packed missions. This games focus is on investigation.

Second if you paid attention you would know that there is in fact free roam if you just bothered to look in the main menu after you finished the first enrollment (patrol).

Perhaps you should look more into a game before purchasing it.
