Timothy Simons

I was a fan of the Thick Of It and have just binge watched Veep 1-5. The character that made the most impact on me was Jonah. Not the inappropriate and plain stupid self-serving spoilt brat behaviour, language and attitudes but the bullying. Myself I have managed to get through most of my life without being bullied, but is it any wonder that Jonah reacted as he did by over-compensating?
From the outset Jonah was the subject of ridicule because of his size. This was bullying at its most horrid. Like many victims Jonah could not help his height.
My purpose in writing this was not a diatribe against bullying but to compliment Timothy Simons for his portrayal. It is a very nuanced performance underneath the broad lines he is asked to deliver. He manages to convey the underlying inadequacy and frightened litle boy of the character with immense skill. In my view his is the stand-out performance from a highly accomplished ensemble. I wish I had the words to thank Timothy for his work - it is not easy playing a fool with issues. Well done Mr Simons I hope you read this and get some idea of the gratitude and appreciation of your work that exists among your audience.
