Come on ... Harry Hole? Is that a joke or what?
The writer was Norwegian so maybe it didn't translate well.

But, when there is a book and something doesn't make sense, they

Every other protagonist in a movie is called John or Jack... That's what you'll end up with...
So, you are fine if someone thinks of a totally ridiculous name for the hero of some book or TV series ... they have a choice as to what to call their characters, and when they settle on something that is ridiculous, it ruins the reality of the book.

Early in my career we had to do some work for a major international client on a cross border deal, the CEO of their company was called Ashit... not joking, it's a real name, i had to google it... I think it's an Indian or Bengali name... Believe me, people took him seriously and it didn't matter if they were a partner at an top American law firm or European public officials. It didn't matter what the initial reaction was... The guy was a charismatic and powerful business person...
Why should movies be less powerful or interesting than real life?
A lot of people pay a lot of money to consulting firms to invent the right name for their companies. Like the Ashit example, a lot of words have some connotations you don't think about when you name them. Like the Chevy Nova ... "no va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish. On some level you lose business when something tweaks your unconscious mind so.
... OK, another example, a restaurant in our town was named "Bird Dog", for some reason I forget now, it make sense to the owner. It did not last the year, and it was a nice looking place, even had good food they said. Who wants to think about dog when you are dining out?
i understand, but the guy was called Ashit, not the company... it wasn't a branding thing, it is his real name... ;)

shareYeah, I'm a librarian and explaining who the protagonist is in the Jo Nesbo books can make for a very uncomfortable interaction.
